The big challenge has been to reach consumers at home, says Bata CEO CEO Sandeep Kataria

New Delhi: Covid-19 has hit businesses across the world. Consumer demand has been hit due to lockdowns, quarantine guidelines, travel bans and more. Another reason for consumer demand going down has been the fact that several people have witnessed job loss or salary cuts and since the situation is still uncertain, people want to save money instead of spending to ensure that they have enough to get by in case they lose their jobs.

During the pandemic, online shopping has grown as people abiding lockdown guidelines. On India Revival Mission, ET NOW discussed consumerism, life post lockdown and how the economy is doing post lockdown. In conversation with the CEO of Bata, Sandeep Kataria, he shared the performance of Bata and how business is post-lockdown. Kataria also shared that footfall is increasing slowly in the store and that festive season is awaited by the retailers.

Talking about demand, Kataria said that demand in smaller towns is higher as compared to malls and big cities. When asked about what has been the biggest challenge, he said, “The big challenge has been to reach consumers at home. Many measures have been taken to reach consumers.” He also shared his views on the impact of demand due to work from home situation amid COVID. Emphasising how the coronavirus has changed their business, Kataria shared that what they are selling now is different from what they sold before COVID.
