Roger Federer to sign Adidas deal? Footwear expert reveals shock Nike update

ROGER FEDERER could sign a footwear deal with Nike’s biggest rival Adidas if he joins Uniqlo.
That is according to ESPN writer Nick DePaula.

Reports over the weekend claimed Federer was on the brink of joining Uniqlo in a deal worth $30m-a-year (£22.4m).

Federer has been with Nike since the start of his career but his contract with the sportswear giant ended in March and talks over a renewal have not resulted in an extension.

Speaking at a press conference ahead of competing in the Stuttgart Open this week, Federer said he hadn’t decided which sports brand he would be signing up with next.

He said: ”They are rumours and nothing is ruled out, neither my continuity in Nike nor the end of our collaboration, nor a change to any brand.”

But rumours of a link up with Uniqlo refuse to go away and DePaula has added Adidas to the conversation.

Responding to claims that a Federer and Nike split was not official, DePaula wrote on Twitter: “Should Roger Federer leave Nike for the reported $300 Million Uniqlo apparel offer, I’m hearing his new potential footwear partner could be Adidas

Uniqlo’s biggest name in tennis Kei Nishikori wears Nike footwear when competing.

While Novak Djokovic, who left Uniqlo in 2017, wore Adidas trainers.

Federer will play his first match in Stuttgart this afternoon against Misha Zverev.

The 36-year-old has trained in Nike apparel and there is no suggestion of an imminent announcement.
